She is best known for playing Ferris Bueller's girlfriend Sloane Peterson in the 1986 film ''Ferris Bueller's Day Off''. She has also appeared in the miniseries ''Queenie'', ''Legend'' as ''Princess Lili'', as well as playing key roles for the Jean-Claude Van Damme film ''Timecop'' and the 1995 Canada-Russia co-production ''Bullet to Beijing'' starring Michael Caine.
She appeared in the short-lived WB Network television show ''Birds of Prey'' as Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Sara won the "Best Supporting Actress" Saturn award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films for her performance in ''Timecop''.
She is a graduate of St. Ann's School (Brooklyn Heights, New York). She has two Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier|Wheaten Terriers, enjoys flying and has a private pilot's license. In March 1996, Sara was married to Jason Connery (son of Sean Connery and with whom she acted in ''Bullet to Beijing''). In June 1997 they had a son, Dashiell Quinn Connery. The couple divorced in 2002.
